Access to energy is shaping global development. It inspires progress, promoting economic and social development and improving living standards. Even today, as environmental concerns are becoming increasingly urgent and needs are constantly changing, a billion people still have no access to energy. Given this situation, Total is reaffirming its ambition to become the leader of responsible energy. It is committed to contributing to the success of the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN, especially in the area of access to energy.

Since 2010, Total has been developing a range of innovative and decentralized solutions, meeting the energy needs of people in emerging countries while contributing to the fight against climate change.

To benefit 25 million people by 2025

From solar kits to off-grid microgrids, access to modern energy involves implementing sustainable, affordable, quality solutions that meet the ever-changing needs of individuals and communities. To this end, TATES has developed an evolving range of products and is working with local stakeholders to propose funding solutions based on the resources of each individual.

Since 2010, more than 3.5 million solar lanterns and kits have been distributed in 40 countries via distribution channels involving social entrepreneurs and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).  Fitted with accessories such as mobile phone chargers, radios and fans, these solar solutions are genuinely improving the daily lives of more than 15 million people.

Total is always on the lookout for tangible solutions like these. New products and services are identified and tested via the incubation program to improve access to energy and create economic and social value.
